Ulcerate, a death metal band from Auckland, New Zealand, formed in 2000. Initially known as Bloodwreath, they released the first demo, Demo 2003 (2003), after changing their name to Ulcerate in 2002. The lineup evolved over time, with notable members including James Wallace and Paul Kelland on vocals. The debut album, Of Fracture and Failure (2007), was released through Neurotic Records. In 2011, they signed with Willowtip Records for the release of the third album, The Destroyers of All (2011). They gained significant recognition for a technical death metal style, characterized by dissonance and complex song structures. They toured extensively in North America and Europe, including performances at notable festivals such as Maryland Deathfest. The fifth album, Shrines of Paralysis (2016), was released via Relapse Records. They followed up with Stare Into Death and Be Still (2020) and Cutting the Throat of God (2024), released under the Debemur Morti label. Other notable releases include the albums Everything Is Fire (2009) and Vermis (2013).
