Biography

Gorguts, a Canadian death metal band, was formed in 1989 near Sherbrooke, Quebec. The group's founding members were Luc Lemay, Stephane Provencher, Carlo Gozzi, and Gary Chouinard. Their demo, ...And Then Comes Lividity (1990), led to a signing with Roadrunner Records. The band released their debut album, Considered Dead, in 1991, featuring guest appearances by James Murphy and Chris Barnes. In 1993, they released The Erosion of Sanity and toured the U.S. with Cannibal Corpse and Atheist. After a hiatus, Gorguts returned with Obscura in 1998, marking a shift towards an avant-garde sound. The band disbanded in 2005 following the suicide of drummer Steve MacDonald. In 2006, Luc Lemay reformed Gorguts with new members and released Colored Sands in 2013, which was nominated for a Juno Award.
