Biography
De/Vision was formed in Julyâ¯1988 in Bensheim near Darmstadt by Thomas Adam, Stefan Blender, Steffen Keth and Markus GanÃert, with Steffen Keth later becoming the bandâs lead vocalist and primary lyricist. The quartetâs early years were marked by a DIY ethic, producing the "Your Hands on My Skin" single in 1990 and "Boy on the Street" in 1992 on Synthetic Product Records, which established their presence in the emerging German synthpop scene. In 1993 the maxi single "Try to Forget" was released through Strange Ways Records, signalling a breakthrough that led to a fullâlength debut. The debut album, World Without End (1994), produced by former Camouflage producer Axel Henninger, entered the German charts and was followed by a national tour. The midâ1990s saw a steady stream of releases: Dress Me When I Bleed (1995), the Antiquity compilation (1995), Fairyland (1996) â the first entry into the German album charts â and Monosex (1998) under WEAâRecords, which peaked at Numberâ¯30 on the German Albums Chart and remained for four weeks. Throughout its career De/Vision released a mix of studio albums and compilations, such as Unversed in Love (1995), Subkutan (2006), Popgefahr (2010), Rockets & Swords (2012), and 13 (2016). The groupâs touring history spanned Germany, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Spain, and the Netherlands, often featuring guest musicians on stage. After the departure of Markus GanÃert in 2000, Thomas Adam and Steffen Keth continued as a duo, maintaining the band's output through the 2010s.
