Biography

Wolfsheim are a synth duo from Germany, named after a character from F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel 'The Great Gatsby'. They have retained their distinctive electronic sound since the 1980s. They formed in 1987 and originally consisted of brothers Markus and Olli Reinhardt and vocalist Pompejo Ricciardi. After their first demo Ricciardi was replaced by vocalist Peter Heppner. After Reinhardt also left, the band carried on as a duo. In 1991 Wolfsheim released their debut single 'The Sparrows and the Nightingales'. Their first album was 'No Happy View' in 1992, followed by second album 'Popkiller' in 1993. The band's fifth album 'Spectators' reached number two in the German Album Charts in 1999 and featured the hit single 'Once in a Lifetime'. Another successful album was 'Casting Shadows' in 2003, featuring the single 'Kein Zuruck'. Wolfsheim have remained inactive since 2005 following disagreements over Happner's solo work and a series of legal disputes between the two members over the use of the band's name.
