Biography

Arne Gotthard Ihlenfeld, known professionally as Captain Gips, is a German rapper born in Hamburg. His musical journey began in Wedel, inspired by Public Enemy's music. In the mid-1990s, he started writing lyrics and formed the rap group Diebe der Zeit, which released a demo in 1998. After the group disbanded in 2002, Captain Gips pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album Transformer in 2006. In 2009, he launched the project Optimus Prime, featuring multiple personas. Collaborating with Johnny Mauser, he released the controversial album Neonschwarz in 2010, which included the song "Flora bleibt" and was later indexed by the Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien. In 2017, he released his fourth solo album, Klar zum Kentern, on Audiolith Records and toured with Johnny Mauser. Captain Gips has also been active under the alias Florida Klaus, releasing albums such as Vollautomatisierter Luxuskommunismus in 2021.
