Aquagen was founded in 1999 in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) as an electronic dance music duo. The group consists of DJs and producers Gino Montesano and Olaf Dieckmann, who are active in the fields of Eurodance, trance and techno and enjoyed commercial success in the late 1990s and early 2000s in particular. Aquagen shaped the European club sound of the time with energetic beats, melodic synthesizers and catchy hooks. In 1999, the group quickly achieved a breakthrough with their debut single "Ihr Seid So Leise", which sold millions of copies and achieved gold status in Germany. In the early 2000s, Aquagen released several studio albums: Abgehfaktor (2000) and Weekender (2002) as well as Nightliner (2002), which consolidated their position in the electronic dance scene. In addition to "Ihr Seid So Leise", the best-known singles include the club hit "Phatt Bass" (together with Warp Brothers), "Party Alarm", the cover version of the Chicago classic "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" and "Everybody's Free" (feat. Rozalla). Many of these tracks dominate the clubs and achieve high chart positions in various countries. Aquagen remained active in the years that followed, releasing further singles such as "Sirens" (2013) and most recently "EXPLODE (High Like Amsterdam)" (2025), which demonstrate her connection to the contemporary dance scene.
