Paffendorf, a German electronic dance music project, was formed in 1998 by Ramon Zenker, Gottfried Engels, and Nicolas Valli. The group's debut single "Smile" was released on July 1st, 1998, followed by the EPs Ruf Mich An (call Me Now) and Terminator 2 Theme: Main Title in the same year. Zenker had been involved in several dance music projects since the late 1980s, including Interactive with their hit "Who Is Elvis". Engel's and Zenker's Samba dance project Bellini, featuring three female singers, began in 1997 with the release of "Samba de Janeiro", which became an international hit. Paffendorf's breakthrough came with the release of "Where Are You" in 2000, which reached number 15 in Germany. This success was followed by the hit album Dance City, which also charted in the Top 50. In June 2002, their single "Be Cool" (from their second album of the same name) peaked at number 7 in the UK Singles Chart. Five years later they emerged with third record Planet Dance (2007), seeing album single "Under My Skin" become an internet meme, featuring the character Momo from the anime series Sumomomo Momomo. In 2025 they returned with "Where Are You 2.0".
