Home Grown was formed in Orange County, California in 1994 by guitarist and vocalist John âJohn E. Trashâ Tran, bassist and vocalist Adam âAdumbâ Lohrbach, guitarist Ian âSlurâ Cone, and drummer Bob Herco. The quartet began crafting a blend of pop punk, surf, and skate influences, releasing their debut album That's Business in 1995 through Liberation Records, which introduced fan favorites such as "Surfer Girl" and "Face in the Crowd". In 1996 the EP Wusappaning?! appeared on Burning Heart Records, and the band signed to Outpost Recordings, issuing Act Your Age in 1998; the album peaked at number 24 on Billboardâs Heatseekers chart that year and spawned the track "We Are Dumb", featured in the soundtracks of Half Baked and Homegrown. After lineup changes and the departure of Cone and Herco, Home Grown recorded Kings of Pop in 2002 on DriveâThru Records, achieving nationwide recognition and touring the Warped Tour; the single "You're Not Alone" received considerable airplay. The 2004 EP When It All Comes Down marked a stylistic shift toward more emotive material. In February 2005 Lohrbach left, and the band entered an indefinite hiatus after a final show in October 2005; subsequent members pursued other projects. The group announced a reunion in 2024, with plans for live performances in 2025.
