Biography

The pop-punk band Alkaline Trio hails from the McHenry suburb of Chicago, Illinois, where frontman Matt Skiba formed the group with bassist Rob Doran and drummer Glenn Porter 1996. The bandmates became cult heroes across the American Midwest with early releases like Goddamnit (1998) and Maybe I'll Catch Fire (2000), both of which were released by the DIY label Asian Man. Inspired by acts like Green Day and Ramones, Alkaline Trio signed with Vagrant Records and achieved a major breakthrough when the band's fourth album, Good Mourning (2003). The single "Help Me" peaked at number 14 on the Alternative Airplay chart in 2008, and its accompanying album, Agony & Irony, reached number 13. This Addiction followed in 2010 and charted at number 11, marking the band's commercial peak on the Billboard 200. Albums like 2013's My Shame Is True and 2018's Is This Thing Cursed? were also released during the 2010s, but the breakneck pace of the band's early days had slowed down, and Alkaline Trio focused mostly on touring during the late 2010s and early 2020s. They returned in 2023 with "Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs," the title track from the band's tenth album, which arrived early the following year.
