Hawksmoor is the kosmische alias of Bristol-based producer and composer James McKeown. Drawing inspiration from the spectral architecture of Nicholas Hawksmoorâs London churches, his music maps out imagined soundscapes that drift between hauntology, krautrock, and modular synth experimentation. He began exploring modular synthesis in 2015âinitially using a Moog Sub37âlaunching the Hawksmoor project as a solo vehicle. His early releases appeared on boutique labels such as Spun Out of Control, Castles in Space, Library of the Occult, and Environmental Studies, drawing support from BBC 6 Music presenters and niche electronic audiences. Over time, Hawksmoorâs discography expanded to include Hawksmoor (2018), 201984 (2020), Methods of Dreaming (2021), Saturnalia (2022), and more. In 2025, he teamed with Ivan the Tolerable for Atoms in the Void.
