Biography

Maître Gims or simply Gims, born Gandhi Djuna on May 6, 1989 in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), is a member of the 3ème Prototype collective, one of the groups that led to Sexion d'Assaut. In addition to his collaboration with the number-one French rap group of the 2010s, he also collaborates with Mister You, Youssoupha, Dry and Sniper. In 2012, he unveiled a trailer entitled Ceci n'est pas un clip, hinting at a debut album. In 2013, he made his presence felt with "Meurtre par strangulation" and "J'me tire", both of which reached the top of the charts. In May, the album Subliminal was released, and proved to be a tidal wave (No. 2), selling over a million copies. The "Bella" singer was then at the pinnacle of French rap when, in August 2015, Mon Coeur Avait Raison followed (No. 1), featuring the tracks "Est-ce que tu m'aimes?", "Laissez passer" and a duet with Australian Sia on "Je te pardonne". Three years later, her third album Ceinture Noire (No. 1), featuring some 40 tracks, included the duet "La Même" with Vianney and collaborations with rappers Lil Wayne, Orelsan, Sofiane, MHD, Dadju and H-Magnum. After singing with Sting in 2019 on the track "Reste", he announced his intention to return to rap in 2020 with the album Le Fléau, spurred on by a single entitled "Immortel", released a week after a documentary devoted to him. Postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Le Fléau was finally released at the end of 2020, featuring duets with Kaaris, Vald, Heuss l'Enfoiré, Bosh and Leto. It reached No. 1 in the French charts. Two years later, Gims returns with his album Les Dernières Volontés de Mozart (Symphony) , which enters the French Top 5 (No. 4) and features an unexpected collaboration with Carla Bruni on the track "Demain". In 2024, France's most popular rapper collaborates with Italian counterparts such as Sfera Ebbasta and Baby Gang, before delivering his sixth album Le Nord Seouvient (No. 2), featuring contributions from Dadju and Dystinct.
