Biography

Real name Julien Mari, born in Marseille on January 14, 1990, rapper Jul dropped out of school to study for a sales diploma (BEP) and worked as a laborer with his father before starting to rap under the name Juliano 135. Noticed by local label Liga One Industry, he joined the group Ghetto Phénomène and continued in parallel under the name Jul, releasing his first track "Sort le cross volé" (n° 73) in 2013. Known thanks to his videos on social networks, he produced the album Dans Ma Paranoïa (No. 7 in 2014). Quickly becoming a French rap phenomenon, a few months later he released the mixtape Lacrizeomik, which reached No. 4 in album sales on its release. Led by the single " Señora ", the album Je Trouve Pas le Sommeil (#8) is Jul's third release in less than a year, followed in 2015 by Je Tourne en Rond (#2). The second most-listened-to French artist that year releases the certified diamond album My World (his first No. 1) under his D'Or et de Platine label, followed by a series of five free digital download albums. 2016 saw the release of the albums Émotions and L'Ovni, also ranked #1. Two more albums are released in 2017, the number-one Je Ne Me Vois Pas Briller and La Tête dans les Nuages (No. 3), along with a number of collaborations. In 2018, Inspi d'Ailleurs (no. 1) and La Zone en Personne (no. 2) were released at the same rate of two albums a year, and the following year Rien 100 Rien (no. 2) and C'est Pas des Lol (no. 1). In 2020, following the double album La Machine (No. 1), Jul forms the collective 13 Organisé, bringing together some fifty rappers from Marseilles, for the release of an album with the same title. The year continued with the album La Machine (No. 1), featuring the track "Sousou" , followed by Loin du Monde (No. 1), including the duet "Loin de tout" with singer Wejdene. In 2021, Jul released his fifteenth studio album Demain Ça Ira (no. 1), which included a reference to the health crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. At the end of the year, he releases Indépendance, which reaches No. 6. After the Le Classico Organisé collective project and the album of the same name, released in 2021, the No. 1 rapper in sales and listening figures set to work on the album Extraterrestre (2022), released the day before a concert at Marseille's Stade Vélodrome and installed at the top of the French charts. In December of the same year, the rapper released the double album Cœur Blanc , featuring contributions from Paky, Mula B, Morad and 3robi. In 2023, he released what was already his 19th album, C'est Quand Qu'il s'Éteint? which also reached number one in the French charts. It features contributions from artists such as Dabeull, DJ Sozé, Vacra and Nia. He releases his second album of 2023 in December, La Route Est Longue, which again reaches number 1. It features 23 tracks, including duets with Alonzo (the single "La Fusion"), Tiakola, SDM, PLK and Naza. France's most productive rapper kicks off 2024 with the album Décennie, promoted by the track "Love de toi" and featuring a host of guest stars, including Rim'K, ZKR, Le Rat Luciano, Baby Gang, Alonzo, SCH, Dystinct and Kvra. In June 2024, after selling out Marseille's Stade Vélodrome in record time and carrying the torch for the Summer Olympics, the album Mise à Jour (No. 1) followed, featuring contributions from SDM, Morad, Houari et Kamikaz, A-Deal, Moubarak and Zbig. Jul's third album of the year, Inarrêtable (No. 2), features duets with Francè Zito, Spanish rapper Bad Gyal and Italian rapper Baby Gang. In 2025, Jul returned to pole position with the albums D&P à Vie, featuring a contribution from Le Rat Luciano, and the double TP sur TP, with I Muvrini, Akon, Dyce, Morad, El Chapo Junior, Antone Fantoni, Naza and Salima Chica.
