Biography

Dohnyale Sharon "Deni" Hines, born on September 4, 1970, in Sydney, New South Wales, is an Australian singer. Inspired by her mother Marcia Hines' success, Deni Hines began her career as a backing vocalist for artists such as Kylie Minogue and Jimmy Barnes before joining the band Rockmelons. Her breakthrough came with the 1991 cover of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine", which reached number 5 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart. Following this success, she released several hit singles with Rockmelons, including "That Word (L.O.V.E.)" and "It's Not Over". In 1992, she was cast as Mary Magdalene in a revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. Her solo career began in 1995 with the single "It's Alright", which won an ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist – Single. Deni Hines' debut album Imagination (1996) charted at number 15 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. She later released remix albums such as Remix Your Imagination (1997) and A Delicious Collection (2002), and collaborated with artists like James Morrison, recording a successful jazz album in 2007. Deni Hines' fourth studio album, The Soul Sessions, was released in November 2016. Her next release, The Tokyo Sessions, dropped in August 2024.
