Biography

Esmat Bagherpour Baboli, known professionally as Delkash, was born on February 26, 1925, in Babol, Iran. She began her musical journey after moving to Tehran for studies and was introduced to prominent music masters such as Ruhollah Khaleghi and Abdolali Vaziri. Her breakthrough came when she started public singing in 1943 and joined Radio Iran in 1945, where she collaborated with composer Mehdi Khaledi until 1952. Delkash's career flourished from 1954 to 1969, during which she worked extensively with lyricist Rahim Moeini Kermanshahi and composer Ali Tajvidi. She released several notable songs, including "Kija" and "Banu," in her native Mazandarani language. Delkash also ventured into songwriting under the pen name Niloofar and appeared in Iranian films such as Sharmsaar, Maadar, Farda Roushan Ast, Afsoungar, and Dasiseh. Her collaboration with Vigen Derderian resulted in the duet "Delam Mikhast." Delkash passed away on September 1, 2004, at the age of 79.
