Mohammed al Amin, born on February 20, 1943 in Wad Madani, Sudan, was a singer-songwriter known for his distinctive singing style and oud playing. He began singing and learning the oud at age 11, writing his first compositions by 20. Al Amin's career took off after composing "The Epic of October" following the successful revolution of October 1964. Throughout his career, he often faced political repression, including jail time under Nimeiriâs regime in the 1970s and exile in Cairo from 1989 to 1994. Despite these challenges, al Amin maintained a prolific career, releasing albums like Voice of Sudan (1996) and performing internationally. He died on November 12, 2023 in the United States at age 80.
