Biography

Amal al-Atrash, known professionally as Asmahan, was born in 1917, in Suwayda, Syria. She gained recognition for her contributions to Arabic music and film. Her musical talent was discovered by the Egyptian composer Dawood Hosni, who encouraged her to adopt the stage name Asmahan. At 14, she performed at Cairo Opera House. Asmahan collaborated with notable composers such as Riad Al Sunbati and Mohamed Al Qasabgi. She released several albums including Archives Des Années 1942/1944 (du Film "intissar Echabab" / Avec Farid Elatrache) in 1992, and Le C?ur A Ses Raisons in 2005. Her work incorporated operatic trills and bel canto techniques. She passed away on July 15, 1944.
