Abdelhamid Ali Ahmed al-Shaeri, also known as Hamid Al Shaeri, was born on November 29, 1961, in Benghazi, Libya, and is a singer, composer, and music arranger. Raised in a polygamous household with fifteen siblings, he was exposed to synth-pop during his brief studies in the United Kingdom. His musical career began as an organist for the Libyan Radio Band and later as a founding member of the Sons of Africa group. He moved to Cairo and released his debut album عÙÙÙÙا in 1983, which gained limited success. His breakthrough came with the release of رØÙÙ in 1984, which received critical acclaim and commercial success. His work as a producer includes notable songs such as "Law Leki" performed by Ali Hemeida, which became emblematic of the al-Jeel genre. In 2022, Habibi Funk released The SLAM! Years (1983â1988), a compilation of his early works that garnered renewed international attention.
