Biography

Aynur Doğan, born on March 1, 1975, in Çemişgezek, Tunceli Province, Turkey, is a contemporary Kurdish singer and musician. She fled to Istanbul in 1992 and studied saz and türkü singing at the Arif Sağ Müsik school. She released her album Keçe Kurdan in 2004 on the Kalan Müzik label. In 2010, she released Rewend and has since collaborated with notable musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Kayhan Kalhor, Javier Limón, Kinan Azmeh, and the Nederland Blazers Ensemble. Aynur Doğan appeared in Fatih Akın's documentary film Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul and Morgan Neville’s The Music of the Strangers. She relocated to Amsterdam in 2012 due to threats from right-wing militants. In 2017, she received the Master of Kurdish Music Award for her efforts to preserve Kurdish folk music.
