Biography

Yonatan Gat, born on September 2, 1982, in Israel, is an Israeli-American musician, guitarist, and composer based in New York City. He first gained prominence as the guitarist and founder of the punk band Monotonix, which released Body Language EP (2008), and the albums Where Were You When It Happened? (2009) and Not Yet (2011) on Drag City Records. After touring extensively with Monotonix, Gat embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut EP Iberian Passage in 2014 followed by the full-length studio album Director in 2015. His second album, Universalists, was released in 2018 and featured collaborations with notable artists such as David Berman. Gat's work has been recognized by various publications, including The Village Voice naming him "Best Guitarist in New York" in 2013 and The Guardian listing Universalists among their top ten Contemporary Classical Music albums of 2018.
