Sessa (born Sergio Sayeg) emerged in the São Paulo music scene as a co-founder of the psych-funk group Garotas Suecas before expanding his career in the U.S., notably collaborating with New York guitarist Yonatan Gat. He released his debut album Grandeza in 2019, earning praise from the New Yorker, which compared him to Caetano Veloso. Singing in Portuguese, Sessa developed a minimalist style blending sensual, poetic lyrics with melodic traces of Tom Jobim. His live performances—built around Afro-Brazilian percussion and a female vocal ensemble—have become highly regarded, positioning him as a distinctive new voice exploring subtle, stripped-down directions in contemporary Brazilian music.
