Biography
Comprising double bassist Milo Firtzpatrick (Portico Quartet) and saxophonist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands, Sunda Arc), Vega Trails is a British jazz duo formed in London in 2020. Born during the Covid-19 pandemic, the pair's association starts from the minimalist, atmospheric approach of chamber jazz and expands to a more fleshed-out style featuring acoustic piano, keyboards, percussion, electronic loops (Fitzpatrick), bass clarinet and ney flute (Smart). The result was their debut album Tremors in the Static, released in 2022 on Gondwana Records. With the name Vega Trails taken from Carl Sagan's novel Contact, the duo explore new sounds on Sierra Tracks (2025), inspired by the mountains of Spain's Sierra de Guadarrama, where it was conceived.
