The Necks is an Australian avant-garde jazz trio formed in 1987 in Sydney, New South Wales. The group consists of pianist Chris Abrahams, drummer Tony Buck, and bassist Lloyd Swanton. The ensembleâs musical style features long-form improvisational pieces based on repetitive motifs. The trio released its debut studio recording, Sex, in 1989. The groupâs discography included the soundtrack for the film The Boys (1998), which received a nomination for an ARIA Award. The ensemble won ARIA Awards for Best Jazz Album for the recordings Drive By (2004) and Chemist (2006). In 2020, the group was ranked at number 49 on the Rolling Stone Australia list of the 50 Greatest Australian Artists of All Time. Its later discography included the studio recordings Vertigo (2015), Travel (2023), and Bleed (2024). The ensemble released the recording Disquiet in 2025.
