Biography
The Mahones, a Canadian Irish punk band from Kingston, Ontario, was formed by Finny McConnell and Dom Whelan in 1990. The group began as a one-off band for St. Patrick's Day but gained a positive reception, leading to their decision to pursue music full-time. Their album, Draggin' the Days, was released in 1994, followed by Rise Again in September 1996. The Mahones have since released several studio albums, including The Black Irish (2010) and Angels & Devils (2012). Their songs have been featured in major films such as "Paint the Town Red" in The Fighter. In 1999, bassist Joe Chithalen passed away due to an allergic reaction. The Mahones established their own label, Whiskey Devil Records, in 2010 and have won several awards, including the Independent Music Award for Best Punk Album for The Black Irish in 2012 and Paddy Rock Radio's album of the year for the Angels & Devils and Vandala Concepts' album of the year. In 2022, they released the album Jameson Street, which was named the top Celtic punk album of the year.
