Biography
The Legendary Pink Dots, an Anglo-Dutch experimental rock band, were formed in London in August 1980. The core members included Edward Ka-Spel and Philip Knight. Initially known as One Day..., the band changed their name to The Legendary Pink Dots and released their first albums Only Dreaming and Kleine Krieg in 1981. In 1984, they moved to Amsterdam and signed with Play It Again Sam for the release of The Lovers. Asylum, one of the band's most critically acclaimed releases, arrived in 1985. The band's lineup stabilized by 1988, featuring Niels van Hoornblower on horns and Bob Pistoor on guitar. Throughout their career, The Legendary Pink Dots have released over forty albums, incorporating elements from neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, and post-punk. During the 1990s, the band continued to garner critical acclaim through releases such as The Maria Dimension (1991) and Shadow Weaver (1992). Subsequent releases include The Whispering Wall (2004) and The Gethsemane Option (2013). In 2022, the band released the album The Museum of Human Happiness, followed by The 13th Step a few months later. So Lonely in Heaven, their first post-pandemic album, arrived in 2025.
