Biography

Current 93, an English experimental music group, was founded in 1982 by David Tibet. The band's early work was characterized by abrasive tape loops and droning synthesizer noises, with Tibet's distorted vocals. In the mid-1980s, their sound evolved into what Tibet termed "apocalyptic folk," blending folk music with industrial elements. Current 93 released their debut album Dogs Blood Rising in November 1984, followed by Nature Unveiled. Notable albums include In Menstrual Night (1986), Swastikas for Noddy (1987), and Earth Covers Earth (1988). Throughout their career, Current 93 collaborated with various artists, including Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound, Douglas P. of Death in June, and Michael Cashmore. Tibet's lyrics often explored themes of death, mysticism, and Christian apocalypse, drawing from literary influences such as the Bible and William Blake. The group has released over twenty full-length albums, with notable works including Soft Black Stars (1998), "How He Loved the Moon" (2005), and The Light Is Leaving Us All (2018).
