Biography
The L.A. Express was an American jazz fusion ensemble formed in 1973 as the backing band for saxophonist Tom Scott. The original lineup included bassist Max Bennett, drummer John Guerin, guitarist Larry Carlton, and keyboardist Joe Sample. They recorded the album, Tom Scott and the L.A. Express, in 1974, which featured tracks from Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark. After Carlton and Sample left the group, Robben Ford replaced Carlton as guitarist and Larry Nash took over keyboards. In late 1974, they recorded Tom Cat with Scott, but he departed soon after its release in early 1975 to pursue a solo career. The L.A. Express continued without Scott, releasing their self-titled album and Shadow Play in 1976.
