Nathaniel Lester Lanin, born on August 26, 1907, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was an American jazz and pop music bandleader. He began his career in the late 1920s, leading ensembles for wealthy clients. His breakthrough came in 1930 with a performance at Barbara Hutton's gala, which gained significant press attention. Lanin's popularity grew through the LP era, recording numerous albums on Epic Records, including Lester Lanin at the Tiffany Ball (1958). Notable releases included Twistin' in High Society! (1962). Lanin's music was a staple at high-society events, including White House inaugural balls from the Eisenhower to Carter administrations. He continued performing into the 1990s and died on October 27, 2004, at age 97. His orchestra, led by Spencer Bruno, went on to perform biennially at the International Debutante Ball following his death.
