Biography

Powder Blues, a Canadian blues and jazz band formed in 1978 in Vancouver, began their career as a house band. The group was founded by brothers Tom Lavin and Jack Lavin, along with Willie MacCalder. After playing local clubs for 18 months, Powder Blues released their self-financed debut album Uncut in 1979, which went double platinum in Canada by 1982. Notable singles from this album include "Boppin' with the Blues" and "What've I Been Drinkin". The band won the Juno Award for Most Promising Group of the Year in 1981. Their greatest hits album, First Decade, was released in 1990 and certified gold. The band continued to tour and release albums, including Swingin' The Blues in 2001, and renamed themselves as Tom Lavin and the Legendary Powder Blues.
