Carroll O'Connor, born John Carroll OâConnor on August 2, 1924 in Manhattan, New York City, was an American singer. After serving in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II and studying at various institutions, including Wake Forest University and the University of Montana, O'Connor began his acting career in Dublin. His breakthrough as a singer came with the release of "Those Were The Days" (All In The Family theme) in 1971. This theme song from the popular sitcom All in the Family became one of his most recognized works. O'Connor released several albums throughout his career, including Remembering You (1972), Carroll O'Connor Sings For Old P.F.A.R.T.S. (People Favoring a Return to Sender) (1976). His musical contributions were part of a broader career that spanned over four decades. He won five Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe Award for his acting roles, notably as Archie Bunker in All in the Family (1971â1979) and its continuation, Archie Bunker's Place (1979â1983). O'Connor passed away on June 21, 2001.
