Biography

Stephen Fearing is a Canadian roots and folk singer-songwriter born as Stephen John Ging Fearing on January 14, 1963, in Vancouver. He achieved professional recognition for a musical career characterized by folk-rock and for his solo Juno Award win in 2007. Fearing achieved professional recognition for a career that began after he returned to Canada from Dublin in 1981 and released the cassette-only studio recording The Yellow Tape (1986). He achieved professional recognition for co-founding the roots-rock ensemble Blackie and the Rodeo Kings (1996) and the duo Fearing & White with the musician Andy White. His solo discography included the studio recording The Assassin's Apprentice (1994), which received a Juno Award nomination for Best Roots & Traditional Album in 1995. He achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Industrial Lullaby (1998) receiving a Juno Award nomination and the studio recording That's How I Walk (2002) receiving a nomination for Best Roots and Traditional Album in 2003. Fearing achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Yellowjacket (2006) which received the Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year: Solo in 2007. His recording career included the studio recording Every Soul's a Sailor (2017) and the studio recording The Empathist (2025).
