Biography

Elliott Brood is an alt-country trio from Toronto, Canada, where childhood friends Mark Sasso and Casey Laforet relocated after graduating high school in Windsor. The group formed in 2002 and released a debut EP, Tin Type, as a do in 2004. The six-song EP was recorded in two days with help from co-producer Stephen Pitkin, who officially became Elliott Brood's third member in 2005. That same year, the group released the full-length album Ambassador, which received a Juno nomination for "Roots & Traditional Album of the Year." Elliott Brood recorded the sophomore album Mountain Meadows in various lodges, venues, and home studios across Canada, earning Juno nominations for "Best Roots/Traditional Album" and "Best CD Artwork" along the way. Released in 2008, the album was also shortlisted for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize, ultimately losing to Fucked Up's The Chemistry of Common Life. After writing the score for the 2010 film Grown Up Movie Star, Elliott Brood signed with Paper Bag Records and released a third album, Days into Years, in 2011. The album included "West End Sky," a highlight from the Grown Up Movie Star soundtrack, as well as a nominee for "Best Achievement in Music: Original Song" at the 2011 Genie Awards. Two years later, Days Into Years earned Elliott Brood its first Juno Award for "Roots & Traditional Album of the Year." 2014's Work and Love was nominated for the song award but failed to win, and subsequent releases like 2017's Ghost Gardens, 2020's Keeper, 2023's Town, and 2024's Country (which debuted at number 61 on Canada's Top 100 Albums chart) all maintained the band's popularity at home.
