Biography

Skankin' Pickle were an American ska punk band from San Jose formed in 1988. The ensemble consisted of bassist Mike Mattingly, saxophonist Mike Park, guitarist Lynette Knackstedt, and drummer Chuck Phelps, later adding trombonists Lars Nylander and Gerry Lundquist. They performed their first concert in 1989 and released their debut studio album, Skafunkrastapunk (1991), through Dill Records. They toured extensively alongside groups including Bad Religion and Green Day, performing energetic live shows characterized by on-stage wrestling matches. In 1994, SF Weekly named them one of the best unsigned bands in the Bay Area. Their discography includes the studio recordings Skankin' Pickle Fever (1992) and Sing Along With Skankin' Pickle (1994). Their final studio recording, The Green Album (1996), was released before Park departed and the ensemble disbanded in 1997. Knackstedt died in 2007.
