Sayed Mekawy, born in May 8, 1928 in Cairo, Egypt, was a notable singer and songwriter. Blind from childhood, he began his musical journey by reciting the Quran and calling to prayer in local mosques. Mekawy's career took off when Egyptian Radio hired him as a singer in the 1950s. His breakthrough came with songs like "Muhammad" and "Tunis", followed by religious compositions with lyrics by Sheij Mohammed Al-Fayoumi. In the mid-1950s, Mekawy voiced the character Al-Masharati on radio. Notable works include "Hadouta" for Mohamed Kandil and the operetta Al-Leila Al-Kebira. Mekawy passed away on April 21, 1997.
