Biography

Puressence, an English indie rock band, was formed in 1991 in Failsworth, Greater Manchester. The original lineup consisted of James Mudriczki, Neil McDonald, Anthony Szuminski, and Kevin Matthews. They met on a bus while attending a concert by The Stone Roses. Their first gig as a band took place at the 701 Club in their hometown on February 23, 1991. Initially known as Presence, they later changed their name to Puressence. Puressence released two singles and an EP before signing with Island Records. Their debut album, Puressence, was released in April 1996 and included the singles "I Suppose" and "Fire". The band's second album, Only Forever (1998), reached number 40 in the UK and featured the chart hit "This Feeling", which received significant airplay on BBC Radio 1. Their third album, Planet Helpless, was released in October 2002 and achieved notable success in Greece, reaching number 4 in the album charts. In August 2003, guitarist Neil McDonald left the band to form Juno Ashes. Puressence continued with Lowell Killen on guitar and released Don't Forget To Remember in September 2007, which entered the Top 30 on iTunes. The band's final album, Solid State Recital, was released in April 2011 and featured a collaboration with Judy Collins. Puressence announced their split in November 2013 but reunited for concerts in June 2024 at Albert Hall in Manchester and December 2024 at Floyd in Athens.
