Biography
Crispy Ambulance, an English post-punk band, was formed in Manchester in 1977 with Keith Darbyshire on bass, Robert Davenport on guitar, Alan Hempsall on vocals, and Gary Madeley on drums. Inspired by the Sex Pistols' second gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall, Crispy Ambulance played their first gig on January 1, 1978. Following a self-released debut single "From the Cradle to the Grave" (1980), they joined Factory Records and released The Plateau Phase (1982). The band disbanded in 1982 but reformed in 1999, releasing two studio albums: Scissorgun (2002) and The Powder Blind Dream (2004), as well as a live album, Accessory After the Fact. Crispy Ambulance reformed again in 2014 and has continued to tour. In 2000, they released the compilation Frozen Blood, which included their 1981 BBC radio session for John Peel's program.
