Poltergeist is a Swiss thrashâmetal group originating from Liestal, Switzerland, formed in 1983 under the name Carrion before adopting the Poltergeist moniker in 1984. The early lineup featured guitarist and vocalist André Grieder and V.O.â¯Pulver, and the band released its debut demo Writing on the Wall in 1988, followed by the fullâlength Depression on Century Media in 1989. In 1991 the band issued Behind My Mask, and 1993 saw the release of Nothing Lasts Forever on Haunted House Records, after which the group disbanded in 1994. After a reunion in 2013, Poltergeist returned to the stage and released Back to Haunt in 2016, Feather of Truth in 2020, and the single POPPING DOLL in 2023. The band has performed with acts such as Destruction, Kreator, and Coroner, and has toured across Europe, including appearances at Headbangers Open Air 2014. Poltergeistâs recordings have been noted for their technical speed and melodic integration, and the group is regarded as one of Switzerlandâs prominent thrashâmetal acts, sharing the scene with Celtic Frost and Coroner.
