Sheila Savithri Elizabeth Chandra was born on March 14, 1965 in Waterloo, London, England. She began her career as an actress before transitioning to music in the early 1980s. In 1982, Chandra formed the band Monsoon with Steve Coe and Martin Smith, releasing their debut album Third Eye, which included the hit single "Ever So Lonely" that peaked at Number 12 in the UK Singles Chart. After Monsoon disbanded, Chandra released several albums on Indipop Records before signing with Peter Gabriel's Real World label in the 1990s. Her notable releases during this period include Weaving My Ancestors' Voices (1992), The Zen Kiss (1994), and ABoneCroneDrone (1996). Chandra's career ended prematurely in 2009 due to burning mouth syndrome, which rendered her unable to sing or speak without intense pain.
