Biography

Gorefest, a Dutch death metal band, was founded in 1989 by bassist and singer Jan-Chris de Koeyer and guitarist Frank Harthoorn. The group released their debut album Mindloss in 1991, showcasing an early death metal sound influenced by Carcass. Their second album, False, followed in 1992 with more socially conscious lyrics and higher technical proficiency. This period included extensive tours, such as the Insanity Tour with Deicide and Atrocity. Gorefest's evolution continued with Erase (1994), which introduced a mid-tempo groove and unconventional guitar sounds. The band transitioned to a death-'n'-roll style with Soul Survivor (1996) and Chapter 13 (1998). These albums featured hard rock elements, including Hammond organs and keyboards. Despite commercial success and support slots for bands like Judas Priest, internal conflicts led to Gorefest's disbandment in 2004. The group reunited in shortly after, releasing La Muerte and Rise to Ruin, before ultimately disbanding again in 2009.
