Biography

The Real McKenzies were founded in 1992 in Vancouver, British Columbia, by frontman Paul McKenzie, who remains the sole member. After performing Scottish songs with punk influences, the band released its debut in 1995, followed by Clash of the Tartans in 1998. Subsequent albums-10,000 Shots (2005), Off the Leash (2008), Westwinds (2012), Rats in the Burlap (2015), Two Devils Will Talk (2017), Beer & Loathing (2020), and Songs of the Highlands Songs of the Sea (2022)-were issued through Fat Wreck Chords and featured covers such as Stan Rogers’ "Northwest Passage". The group toured with Rancid, NOFX, and Flogging Molly, and their track "Chip" appeared in the television series Billions (2018). The lineup includes Aspy Luison, Kenny Lush, Barry Higginson, and Paul Patko. After the release of the compilation Float Me Boat in 2022, the band returned in 2026 with Paul McKenzie Signs on Her Bike.
