Biography
Blackbird Raum, an American folk punk band from Santa Cruz, California, formed in 2004 by banjoist CPN and accordionist Zack. They initially played gigs and busked with various musicians before recording their first demo. In 2007, they released their debut album Purse-Seine, followed by Swidden in 2008 and Under the Starling Host in 2009. During this period, they established a small anarchist record label called Black Powder to support radical folk projects. In 2013, after regrouping with new members, they released False Weavers, which marked a shift in their sound. They collaborated with Dublin-based folk group Lankum (then called Lynched) for the album Destroying in 2015. Following Mars's departure, they released the EP Nevermind the Ballads in 2016. After a hiatus, they returned with the EP Come into your power in 2023.
