Biography

Gogol Bordello is an American punk band formed in 1999 in New York City, led by frontman Eugene Hütz who was born in 1975. The group emerged from the Lower East Side scene, blending Romani, Ukrainian, and punk influences and incorporating accordion and violin into their sound. Their first single, "When the Trickster Starts a-Pokin'", appeared in 1999, followed by the EP East Infection in 2005, which established their eclectic style. The band’s debut album Voi-La Intruder was released in 1999, and they continued with Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony (2002), Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike (2005), and Super Taranta! (2007). In 2010 they signed with SideOneDummy and later released Trans-Continental Hustle under Rick Rubin’s American Recordings, a move that broadened their international reach. Subsequent releases include Pura Vida Conspiracy (2013), Seekers and Finders (2017), Solidaritine (2022), and We Mean It, Man! (2026). The band has toured extensively across Europe and America, collaborated with artists such as Primus and Les Claypool, and contributed tracks to films like Everything Is Illuminated (2005). Their work has earned recognition for cultural impact and sustained presence in the punk and world‑music scenes.
