Biography
The Members, a British punk rock band, originated in Camberley, Surrey, England. Formed in 1976 by lyricist Nicky Tesco (Nick Lightowlers), the original lineup included Gary Baker on guitar and Steve Morley on bass guitar. The band's first recording was "Fear on the Streets", produced by Adrian Lillywhiteâs brother Steve Lillywhite, which appeared on the punk compilation Streets (1977) released by Beggars Banquet label. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Solitary Confinement" for Stiff Records in 1979. The Members signed to Virgin Records and achieved their biggest chart success with "The Sound of the Suburbs", reaching number 12 on the UK Singles Chart in 1979. Their debut album, At the Chelsea Nightclub, was released in 1979 and was followed by 1980 â The Choice Is Yours (1980) and later Going West (1982), which featured the single "Radio" that reached number 5 in Australia. The band broke up in 1983 after a US tour, with Nicky Tesco leaving the band. In 2008, the original lineup reformed for concerts, leading to subsequent tours and new album releases including InGrrLand (2012) and One Law (2016). The Members' lineup has seen several changes over the years, with members like JC Carroll, Chris Payne, Nigel Bennett, Nick Cash, and Rat Scabies contributing to their music.
