Biography

Yuriko Kunizane, born on 19 December 1970 in Kōchi, Japan, began her artistic journey while attending Hōkō High School after transferring from Kōchi Otsu High School. She entered the entertainment industry through the 1987 “The Audition Boys and Girls” competition organized by the agency Gei Eigishō, winning the contest on 4 October 1987 and debuting as an idol singer on 16 March 1988 with the single "Aoi Sihuku", which reached Number 19 on the Oricon charts. Her early releases included "BOY FRIEND" (June 21, 1988) SUMMER IN BLUE (21 July 1988), The SEASONS (21 March 1989), Y‑923NE (21 July 1989), and TEARS TIARA (1 August 1990), followed by the studio album NEW FACES (21 March 1991). In spring 1991, she adopted the stage name Kunizane Yuriko and performed her first full‑length live concert at Tokyo FM Hall in April, a performance that would remain her only full‑scale tour. After a brief hiatus in late 1991, she retired from singing following health issues and later pursued a career as a therapist and Maya calendar counselor. In 2023, she resumed recording, releasing new material and performing live for the first time in 33 years at the 2024 “Idol Archives” event and a solo concert in 2025, reaffirming her enduring presence in Japanese pop culture.
