Umpah-Pah, a Spanish rock band from Girona, Catalonia, was formed in 1989 by Josep PuntÃ, known under his stage name Adrià PuntÃ. The band's debut performance occurred in 1989 at a pop-rock contest in Girona. In 1990, they began touring as opening acts for Sopa de Cabra. Their breakthrough came with the release of their first album, Raons de pes (1991), which sold ten thousand copies and included hits like "Bevent passat" and "La cachimba i "els rostolls d'Angelina". The band's subsequent albums were Bamboo Avenue (1992) and the simultaneous releases of Bordell and Triquiñuelas al óleo in 1994. In 1995, Umpah-Pah received the Ondas Award for Best New Group. Their final album, La columna de Simeón, was released in 1996. Internal tensions led to their dissolution later that year.
