The Dead Science, an experimental pop band from Seattle, was formed in 1999 and consisted of guitarist/vocalist Sam Mickens, bassist Jherek Bischoff, and drummer Nick Tamburro. Initially known as the Sweet Science, the band released their debut EP Galactose in 1999 under this name before changing it due to a cease-and-desist order. Their first album as The Dead Science, Submariner, was released in 2003 on Absolutely Kosher Records. This was followed by the EPs Bird Bones in the Bughouse (2004) and Crepuscule with the Dead Science (2006). The band won the Jazz/Experimental category in Seattle Weekly's 2006 Music Awards. In 2008, they signed to Constellation Records and released their third album, Villainaire.
