Biography

Black Tape for a Blue Girl, an American dark wave band based in California, was formed in 1986 by keyboardist and songwriter Sam Rosenthal. Inspired by acts such as Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Brian Eno, Rosenthal established the group to showcase his electronic music compositions. The band's debut album The Rope was released in 1986, featuring Rosenthal alongside Allan Kraut and vocalist Oscar Herrera. Their second album, Mesmerized by the Sirens, followed a year later. Subsequent releases included Ashes in the Brittle Air (1989), A Chaos of Desire (1991), and This Lush Garden Within (1993). The album Remnants of a Deeper Purity, released in 1996, became their best-selling release. In 2009, Athan Maroulis took over vocal duties for the album 10 Neurotics.
