The Daou, a New York-based dance music quintet, consisting of Peter Daou on keyboards, Vanessa Daou on vocals, Mike Caro on guitar, Leon Dorsey on bass, and Anthony Johnson on drums. The group's breakthrough came with their debut single "Surrender Yourself", which reached Number 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1992 and remained there for 11 weeks. Their sole album, Head Music, was released the same year under Columbia Records, and additional singles such as "Give Myself to You" (1993) and "Are You Satisfied?" (1994). Creative differences with their label led The Daou to negotiate out of their contract and release subsequent singles through independent label Tribal Records. Despite their early success, the group disbanded before completing a second project. Vanessa Daou later pursued a solo career with the 1994 album Zipless, produced by her brother Peter Daou.
