Biography

The 4 Of Us, a rock band from Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, was formed in 1988 by Brendan and Declan Murphy. Their debut album Songs For The Tempted, released on CBS Records in September 1989, featured the hit single "Mary" and achieved double platinum status in the Republic of Ireland, winning Best Album of the Year at the Irish Music Awards. Their follow-up album Man Alive, released on Sony/Columbia Records in March 1992, marked their entry into the UK charts, peaking at number 64. Despite losing momentum and scrapping the release of their proposed third album Amplifier, they continued to release singles like "Change (Amplifier Version)" and "Someone's Got to Lose" in 1997. The band returned with the largely acoustic-based Classified Personal in 1999, followed by Off the Record, an album of re-recordings of their best-known songs, in 2000. Notable achievements include being voted number 7 in the Top Irish Bands Ever category on Irish television's TV3 in 2009 and having Man Alive listed as one of Q magazine's Top 50 albums of 1992. Subsequent albums include Heaven and Earth (2004), Sugar Island (2015), and Crescent Nights (2024).
