Suphala, born in the United States, is a tabla player and composer. She began studying piano at age four and later trained in both Indian and Western classical music. She became the first artist and first female artist to perform a concert in Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban in January 2005. Her debut album Instru Mental was released in September 2000. In May 2005, her second album The Now featured contributions from Norah Jones, Salim Merchant, and Vernon Reid. Her third album Blueprint, released in 2007, included the single "I Feel Awake Even Though This Is A Dream" and collaborations with Edie Brickell, King Britt, and Rakesh Chaurasia. Throughout her career, Suphala collaborated with numerous artists including Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono, Kelly Clarkson, Timbaland, and Joan Osborne.
