Biography
Pascal Gabriel (born 15 December 1956) is a Belgian-born, London-based composer, songwriter, and producer whose career has spanned punk, electronic, pop, and ambient music. He began his musical journey in 1977 with the punk band The Razors, before relocating to London in 1979. Early on, he made a name as a cutting-edge sound engineer and remixer, working with experimental projects and artists like Marc Almond and Yello. In the late 1980s, under his own name, he co-wrote and produced two landmark UK dance tracks: "Theme from S'Express" (reaching number one) and "Beat Dis" (peaking at number two). He then broadened his palette, working with artists across electronic, indie, and popâincluding EMF, Inspiral Carpets, Dido, Kylie Minogue, Ladyhawke, Goldfrapp, Marina and the Diamonds, Miss Kittin, and many more. In 2018, he launched Stubblemanâa contemplative and experimental alter ego. This project marked a return to his electronic and ambient roots, blending modular synthesis, field recordings, found sounds, and live piano into immersive, instrumental soundscapes. His debut album as StubblemanâMountains and Plainsâwas released via Crammed Discs in April 2019. Inspired by a road trip across the United States, its eleven tracks evoke cinematic landscapes through ambient textures, melodic piano, and processed natural sounds. Having released several singles in between, he returned in June 2025 with his second album, 1:46:43 â The Ventoux Trilogy, which transforms the iconic cycling climb up Mont Ventoux into a multi-movement musical journey.
